Update on Shelter Spatial Equity Legislation

Update on Shelter Spatial Equity Legislation
Soma Blooms at Victoria Manalo Draves Park in June

The legislation on equity for distribution of shelter and services for homelessness is one step closer to passing. There are several amendments that have been made to the legislation, of note changing the distance between sites from 1000 ft to 300 ft.

If you're not familiar with the legislation, we've written previously about steps that we can take as a community to provide input to government officials on the legislation: https://www.somawestneighbors.org/soma-shoulders-the-burden-but-all-districts-can-share-the-load/

In addition to providing written public comment on the legislation where actual residents of SOMA overwhelming wrote in support, several of our Soma neighbors, along with neighboring residents of the Tenderloin and Mission, attended the Budget and Finance Committee hearing on the topic to speak in support of the legislation. All in-person public comment was in support of the legislation.
